As a person who's a little skeptical of online reviews I can assure you there's a reason why everyone gives Catch of the Day five stars. Captain Dennis has the kind of personality that makes you feel immediately welcome and relaxed, and his years of experience put him above the bigger boats that were darting here and there at top speeds trying to catch up with the whales that we spotted first.We really enjoyed being on a smaller boat. We didn't have to squeeze through crowds of people to get a good view and we had a personable experience with the captain of the ship who answered all our questions and had plenty of interesting stories to tell. This was our first time seeing humpbacks in the wild and we had the time of our lives.And as if that wasn't enough... We started and ended our excursion with a ride to and from our cruise ship in a limousine. Truth be told, I'm not really one to be impressed by that kind of stuff from the outside. But the ride was so comfortable that it truly completed an awesome overall experience.Thank you, Crystal and Captain Dennis for giving us such a memorable day in Alaska. This was our first trip to Alaska and we were lucky enough to be on board with Captain Dennis. It was nice to be on a smaller boat without a crowd of people on top of you. The scenery was GORGEOUS and Dennis made sure to point out all of the wildlife so we could see as much as possible. We saw killer whales, humpbacks, eagles and much more. It was an amazing trip that we’ll never forget! I highly recommend them!

Wow! What an amazing trip we had! Captain Dennis and Captain Brent have the experience and knowledge you want for a whale watching tour. They only do 6 passengers max so you get the personalized attention that you don’t get on the other crowded boats. Not only did we get some amazing humpback encounters, we also saw sea otters, porpoises, harbor seals, stellar sea lions, bald eagles, grizzly bears on shore, and ORCA WHALES. I’ve always wanted to see them in the wild. You won’t always see everything, but that’s wild nature and what makes it a true adventure. We also did a second trip with them to enjoy more beauty of SE Alaska. We had so much fun on the first day, we had to do another trip. We already booked a private charter with them for next year because we’re bringing some family with us.If you’re looking for the right whale watching excursion, look no further, “Catch of the Day” is the one. Captain and Limo Driver Dennis gave the wife and I a true personal whale watching experience. I was searching and searching back n forth from Juneau and Icy Straight Point/Hoonah for days and I'm glad I chose Catch of the Day. For about the same price as the big tour excursions, he keeps his tours at a maximum of 6 people. Comfortable seating with heat inside to stay out the cold/rain. Plenty of walk around room outside to catch the whales as they pop up from anywhere around you. The minute we left the no wake zone he was heading to where he last seen humpbacks but at the corner of his eye he saw a group of Orca's from a far. He said his wife told him he can spot whales hundreds of yards out but can't spot the gallon of milk on the second shelf. Lol. That's a Captain you need. One thing I can say is take his personal tour because as we went closer to the Orca's, he notified his other buddy on the radio and more and more tours started heading our way. One thing I noticed is how everyone was crunched up together trying to catch that photo while we had plenty of room on the boat to not feel crowded. Thanks Dennis for a once in a lifetime experience and hope you get to see Mr. Dutton next summer.

We booked this super last minute expecting a big boat with tons of people and we ended up with something so much better. Dennis & Brent took our party of four out on their boat and we had an amazing time! They were fun and answered all our questions and we had a good time just chatting. We saw a whole bunch of whales, tails, a momma and baby whale and even a humpback that breached six times (!!!). Totally surpassed our expectations & was the best excursion of our trip - highly recommend :)

We had a private, payed tour, booked with visitor for whale watching with catch of the day. We where 30 minutes late because the ship we where on had trouble with our sea pass. When we finally arrived for our tour, there was no one there. I called and the contacted catch of the day, they were so very rude. They said I was late , and that the had picked up new customers and I was interrupting their business with this this new costumers. I can only say, if a payed, Private tour, can’t wait for you if, I don’t know what can! Horrible service of this company. Very unprofessional and with no sense of good service, causing many problems with our vacation plans.Thankfully Viator returned our money immediately after talking to them. They could not believe what happened. Don’t risk your vacation, I would go with a trustworthy company.

This was an amazing experience! Dennis has the local knowledge and experience to identify where the whales are at. He brought us right to a large group of whales and we could hear and see many simultaneously. I wish I could upload my video to share, but only pics can be uploaded here. We also were able to see a group of killer whales. Awesome. Being on a small private tour was great. Plus they provide transportation which is a nice bonus. Thanks Captain Dennis!

Woweee!!!! My family and I had the most amazing experience with Captain Dennis. He took us out for a day trip and did not disappoint. We saw bald eagles, otters, humpback whales killer whales and more. The boat was extremely comfortable and we weren’t crowded like the other boats. Dennis knew so many interesting facts about the area and the wildlife it made the trip that much better. I’d highly recommend Catch of the Day and look forward to our next adventure in Alaska with this company!

Let’s cut to the chase! If you wanna commercialized impersonal tourist trip then go with one of the other options. But, if you want an amazing personalized experience then this is the place to choose!We saw whales immediately! Captain Dennis is extremely knowledgeable and made my experience amazing! He is extremely friendly and kinda funny. His boat is nice and you won’t be falling all over other people, like you will on some of the other options. Did I mention it is heated! If you don’t have warm weather gear and or it’s raining, just hop inside the cab and warm up.If you want a great personalized and memorable whale watching experience, pick CATCH OF THE DAY!

Great whale watching tour. They make it easy, providing transportation from cruise terminal to the boat (and back). Captain was great. Boat is excellent, way better experience than a large ship thru the cruise line. Highly recommend

Incredible trip. Boat was comfortable and captain was very skilled at the helm.
