Great staff! Leisha and Annie were wonderful! Leisha works night shift. She was full of knowledge and history of park. Park has a deer herd of 60, with 3 sets of triplets just this past year. Joe Wheeler was a confederate leader and came to this location. He married a widow if a war hero. She actually owned the land. When they married, his name was put on land deed. Annie was morning staff. She was very high energy. She was very personal.Love my stay!

The shower didn’t work had no hot water, coffee pot leaked and they charged $163 for 1 night but it didn’t stop there. They charged 24 cents, $163, then on day 2 they let us stay till 1pm but then charged us $100 and another $40. One charged at 150pm the other at 2pm only thing is, we were already gone. $100 cleaning fee cause they say there was something sticky on the floor and something on the bed cover, but isn’t the house keeper responsible for cleaning? And the vending machine was broke. They desk clerk was good but the manager is a rude and nasty person, she caused us of stealing wash cloths and towels which was very hurtful because that is one thing we do not tolerate and would never ever take something that wasn’t ours. Will Never Go Back!!!Address is 4403 McLean Dr. Rogersville AlabamaRooms: No hot water, coffee pot broken, tub faucet about to fall off.Food & drinks: Vending machine was broken, took $5 and got nothing.Noteworthy details: They took money from my credit cards for things we didn’t do and were already gone from room

We came to visit family in Rogersville/Lexington and decided to stay the night at Joe Wheeler. We have stayed at the campground many times before and fished Wheeler Lake all the time when we lived in North AL, but this is the first time staying in the lodge.Built in 1974, Joe Wheeler State Park Lodge overlooks Wheeler Lake. Each Lodge room has beautiful views. Ours was especially nice since we were on the third floor. The Lodge is a little dated but very well up kept. Beds were soft, and comfortable! Carpet was relatively new. Room was clean. Bathroom and shower were a little dated, but clean. In room mini fridge, microwave and TV with Direct TV and multiple channels.Price was $102 plus tax for a double queen room, very reasonable. Staff was nice and helpful upon checkin. We could have stayed in Florence with more choices but Joe Wheeler was much closer to family and well worth the stay. The Lodge offers a pool, snacks, a restaurant, boat dock and marina. Multiple hiking trails, campgrounds for RV and primitive camping, and day use with swimming areas. We love Alabama State Parks for RV camping, but the Lodge was great for an overnight stay or longer!Highly recommend! Will be back!

I didn't stay there but I went to an exhibit they had advertised for kids. Creature feature I think. It was a nice little outing with the family and hopefully I'll be able to afford to stay in one of the rooms some time🤷♀️ it looked like it would be a very nice place to stay. The area is beautiful and plenty to do.Nearby activities: The area has plenty of shopping close by, and the park has swimming, boating, disc golf, playground, picnicking, and I'm sure plenty more I'm unaware of. Also there is a day cruise available.Safety: Very safe, quiet, and friendly environment.Walkability: So much area for walking and hiking.Food & drinks: Great food in the lodge restaurant and great restaurants in close vicinityNoteworthy details: This is a rare gym of a place. It's beautiful and not overly populated with too much tourism.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the view was spectacular and we were there at a less busy time so it was very quiet and relaxing. The only negative was the bathtub ran water all of the time, not just a drip and there were ceramic tiles missing from the wall behind the toilet. But, the room was clean, which was more important to me. The restaurant was closed most of our stay but I understand they have to serve enough people to warrant staying open. I do wish they had a small laundromat on site for guests to use. But, overall, it was a great trip.

Loved the ease of walking in and around the state park, but the cabins are overdue for a renovation. We stayed in a "cabin", which was a 4 bedroom brick house with a wonderful view of the dam. The bathroom towels were plentiful and clean. Unfortunately, the house was in need of a lot of work. Torn off screen porch, torn up mini blinds in nearly every room, rust in the bathroom, worn comforters and furniture...I could go on but you get the picture. I understand that money probably doesn't flow from the state as much as is probably needed to keep these properties in shape. I would rather pay more money to stay at the state parks to help with the maintenance of than pay under $200 a night.

Not much to say here, but the lodge rooms were very nice to say the least. Everything was clean, and the only issue we had was the shower, as the tab you pull to activate the shower did not seal all the way (spraying water all over your legs, slightly uncomfortable). There is one of those typical "I don't want to leave, I'll buy the overpriced food" type restaurant on the bottom floor of the lodge, although the food was slightly better than fast food. Great views of the lake on the back balconies of every room. 7/10 experience, feels nice for a night or two, wouldn't stay more than 4 nights as it would get uncomfortable.

Beds were good. The bathroom is always hot which takes away from your air conditioned room in hot & humid Alabama. The restaurant was not open the entire time we were there, Sunday to Wednesday, July 2022. Must be lack of help because we’re not in the pandemic anymore.Good enough I guess.

Customer service is important to me, and the folks at the lodge along with the park rangers who take care of this beautiful place are some of the best people I've ever come across. The rooms were great, the restaurant was great, and the views were great. The people were kind and helpful, making us feel at home especially when our car broke down on a Sunday.

This park, lodge, conference center was great. Although they were a little light on staff they never missed a beat. The marina and Lodge was great. Their food for our events was served buffet and was fantastic. They made sure that Covid precautions were taken throughout the entire property. We will be back whether it be via boat or staying in the lodge. Great place and kids would love it as well.

My wife and I had a great time over a weekend. We stayed in the lake front cabins and they were awesome. Deer everywhere. The shared dock was nice. Marina was great. Restaurant was good. Employees were very friendly, and so I hate to say, the seafood buffet wasn't tasty to us. But regardless of the seafood buffet we will definitely be back and bring the kids next time. There is so much to do.

Always a lovely stay. Not cheap but price is in range. There are two trailheads which will get you to every trail in the park. Parking layout makes it easy to get from the parking lot to every room. (That's a plus.) Great view from every room. Lodge restaurant is pretty good.

It's huge! Lots of things to offer. Excellent Lodge and restaurant. Very nice and cozy. The lodge rooms are nice , spacious and a great view of the lake. I have not seen the cabins, but have heard they are just as nice and accommodating .The camping area is clean and nice. The sites are close together, but far enough to where your not choking on your neighbors smoke from the fire pit. It does get crowded in this area. Still nice though.

Went there on the Monday night of Alabama 2019 playoffs with my Aunt and her best friend. My first time here. We ate at restaurant which was okay with decent service. Menu was limited due to ending season and they did have buffet. Room was big and roomy with balcony looking over pool and at river. Lots of birds. Cool at night looking out. The Loons or Cranes looked like sailboats tacking back and forth. Overall good place to hangout with friends and loved ones. Beautiful nature retreat.

Loved this place. We stayed at the lodge. The view was spectacular. We fished in a number of different places. Didn't catch any keepers but had a good time. I caught one that wouldn't even qualify as a fish stick ha. The only downfall was the restaurant is closed Monday-Thursday. It closes at 2:30 on Sunday. We arrived Sunday afternoon and left on Wednesday so didn't get to experience it. 😔

Daniella's restaurant was okay, but the chicken was fried too hard and the desserts are set out on a multiple tray shelf with no plastic covering on each piece so thereby hard.We visited a room at the lodge for possible stay. Very nice accommodations and water view.

Stayed in the lodge room 201. 2 balconies. Nice views. Over the pool. Close to lobby and restaurant. All employees super nice and helpful. Will stay again in the summer. For a “hotel” it’s a 3 star. It’s a little tired. Showing some age. I’m sure updates are In the future with all the money being spent on Alabama state parks. Nice hiking trails near the lodge with lots of deer.
